Spencer U. McKinstry, PhD
Academic Highlights More Information
Dr. McKinstry obtained his Doctorate degree in Cell Biology from Duke University and his Bachelor in Science degree in Biology from Pomona College.
Dr. McKinstry is currently a Postdoctoral Associate whose research in our laboratory focuses on the role of the Huntingtin protein in normal synapse development and how Huntington’s disease leads to abnormal synapse formation. Neurological and neurodegenerative diseases are a growing problem and for many there is currently no effective therapies. Through suppressor screens tested in mouse and zebrafish disease models, Dr. McKinstry hopes to identify candidate gene targets to treat these diseases.
